Mycelium
$55.00
Largely hidden beneath the surface of the soil, mycelium are considered the great communicators and connectors of the flora world. Mycelium are part of the fungi family, in that they are the roots that produce mushrooms (thought not all mycelia produce mushrooms). They breakdown organic matter – thereby sequestering carbon – and carry the resulting nutrients to plants of all types through their web-like network of roots, creating a symbiotic ecosystem that sustains and supports the forests, fields and woods around us. Our Mycelium tile series pays homage to the crucial part these organisms play in nature.
Glazed tile on red quarry clay body. These tiles are produced using the cuerda seca glazing technique, which dates back to 14th century Persia and Spain. The Spanish brought this tile technique to California, where we are still using it today to fabricate our tiles! Designed and produced in Los Angeles with clay sourced regionally, and fired in all-electric kilns.
